Reduces traffic vibration with short-term construction work

Overview

This asphalt pavement makes it possible to reduce traffic vibrations with surface and binder layers without having to strengthen the subgrade and base course. It is particularly effective when you want to reduce traffic vibration in a short period of time, such as on highways in urban areas.

Features

  1. Vibration reduction function: The vibration damping performance of the surface and binder layers and vibration damping sheet (glass grid) can reduce traffic vibrations.
  2. Shortened construction period: Compared to conventional vibration reduction methods that strengthen the subgrade and base course, this method reduces the construction period by milling and overlaying the surface and binder layers of asphalt pavement.
  3. High durability: The mixture for surface and binder courses uses polymer-modified asphalt type H, which results in excellent durability and makes it also highly applicable to heavy traffic roads.

Uses

  • Highways in unrban area
Installation of Glass-grid (Ichikawa city, Chiba)
Finish of VIROPAVE
Example of measurement of the vibration-reduction effect
*Note) The reduction effect includes a reduction of 3.8dB due to improvement in road surface flatness.
Step 1: Laying porous asphalt (20mm)
Step 2: Laying SMA (5mm)
Step 3: Installation of Glass-grid
Step 4: Laying SMA (13mm)
